London Stock Exchange and AiM

The London Stock Exchange (“LSE”) is reputed to be one of the oldest trading markets in the world. Born in London coffee houses in the 17th century, it can boast a history of over 300 years. Situated between New York and Tokyo, the LSE represents Europe's largest pool of capital, positioning itself to be the global market of choice. Dedicated to the global markets, LSE has extended and diversified its cross border strategies. LSE offers a highly efficient and transparent trading platform for senior equity markets, high quality and real time market information, as well as their efficient and liquid derivatives vehicle.

The London Stock Exchange recognized the need for an alternative trading platform for smaller venture companies and in 1995 established the Alternative Investment Market (AiM). In its short history, the AiM has become the world's most successful exchange for smaller quoted companies.

Almost 1700 companies have found their way to the AiM, with over 200 from countries other than the United Kingdom. Since its inception, more than $42 billion has been raised for smaller quoted companies.

LITMUS Consulting U.K. continually identifies additional strategic service provider alliances, affording its clients preferred status.

The most successful growth market in the world

The London Stock Exchange recognized the need for an alternative trading platform, and in 1995, established the Alternative Investment Market (AiM). The AiM marketplace was originally tailored for small-to-medium-sized businesses, without the complex compliance requirements and high costs associated with a traditional IPO flotation in the United States.

Trading on the AiM

The AiM has become the world's leading investment marketplace for companies in the mid to later stages of development. As of June 2006, more than 2,200 companies have joined the AiM, creating an innovative, distinctive, and entrepreneurial community of high growth companies.

Companies traded on the AiM span a broad spectrum of business sectors, representing both growing companies and mature businesses around the world. Major business categories include:

  • Oil and Gas
  • Life Sciences and Healthcare
  • Telecommunications, Media, and Technology
  • Alternative Energy Services

Institutional investors on the AiM are long-term investment professionals with a global perspective. Through May 2007, the AiM has attracted more than 311 international companies, representing more than 22 different countries and over 33 business sectors, and have raised more than £2.2 billion in capital.

A simple premise for success

The AiM was specifically designed to promote the success of growth companies. An AiM quotation offers such companies:

  • A flexible regulatory regime
  • Access to a unique, globally respected market with an international pool of capital
  • Enhanced company profile and brand recognition
  • Increased status and corporate credibility
  • Acquisition rules that facilitate rapid expansion
